A solemn meeting "60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome: 60 years of Peace, Democracy and Solidarity in the European Union" was organised in Ashgabat on 25th March, 2017 by the European Union Liaison Office in close collaboration with the Embassies of the EU Member States and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The meeting in the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was accompanied by the exhibition of historical documentary photos related to the signing of the Rome Treaty, while a documentary movie about the history of the European Union was presented during the event.
The solemn meeting was attended by the representatives of the government of Turkmenistan, headed by the Minister of Finance; Ambassadors and staff members of the Embassies, other Diplomatic Missions and Representations of International Organisations in Turkmenistan; professors and students of the Institute of International Relations of the MFA, Institute of Humanitarian Sciences, and Turkmenistan University of Mahtumkuli; and representatives of domestic and foreign media.
Minister of Finance of Turkmenistan Mr Muhammetguly Mukhammedov opened the solemn meeting and delivered a speech "Turkmenistan and the European Union: mutually beneficial partnership". His speech was followed by the presentation of the Ambassador of Italy Mr. Mancini "The 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome"; presentation of the Head of the EU Liaison Office Mr Frebort "European Union, Central Asia and Turkmenistan"; presentation of the Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia Ambassador Draganov "European Union and the United Nations"; and presentation of the Ambassador of Germany Mrs Uebber "From Erasmus to Erasmus plus: 30 years of the European Union's education, training youth, and sport programs".
