On 4-5 July 2019, the Council of Europe Programme on Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals ("HELP") held its annual Network Conference in Strasbourg, France. On this occasion, Ambassador Meglena Kuneva, Head of the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe, delivered welcoming remarks emphasizing the Union’s strong political and financial commitment to supporting legal professionals in applying European human rights standards in the EU and beyond, and called to continue fruitful cooperation with the Council of Europe. Ambassador Kuneva also encouraged the Council to continue its work in the Western Balkans and enhance its cooperation with the European Judicial Training Network ("EJTN") in the region.
HELP is the main educational platform of the Council of Europe for legal professionals and aims to train judges, lawyers and prosecutors on human rights standards in Europe. As legal professionals are at the forefront of the protection of human rights, including those of victims, it is essential that they benefit from high-quality training. For this reason, training is a major priority of the EU Justice Programme 2014-2020. The EU is strongly committed to the success of the HELP Programme.
