Trade Invest launches two-day E-Commerce training in Dili

In the opening ceremony, Mr. Duilio Marino Gusmão Araújo da Silva, Deputy Executive Director of Trade Invest, stressed that Timor-Leste is in the early stages of digital transformation and that through this training, Tradeinvest expects MSMEs to enhance their knowledge on how to utilize digital platforms to market their products.
The Head of Cooperation of the European Union, Mr. Iotam Lerer, highlighted the transformative potential of digitalisation, noting, “The development of e-commerce is a vital driver of economic transformation. It offers businesses, particularly Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises (MSMEs), new pathways to reach consumers not only across borders but also within Timor-Leste”.
This comprehensive training targets participants from the private sector, including members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste (CCI-TL), the Timor-Leste Businesswomen’s Association (AEMTL). The program focuses on practical skills in digital marketing, e-commerce platforms, and relevant policy frameworks to help businesses expand their customers.
Led by e-commerce expert Belinda Hay, the training includes insights into leveraging online platforms to commercialise products effectively. A representative from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry also presented the draft of Timor-Leste’s national E-commerce Strategy, reinforcing the country's commitment to digital trade.
This initiative is expected to support MSMEs, creating new opportunities for them to trade their products in the domestic and international market.
