The donation is part of the #TeamEurope response to Covid19 under the EU funded “Climate Change Adaptation for local development organisations in rural Timor-Leste” implemented by Plan International and a local NGO called Resilient Agriculture and Economy through Biodiversity in Action (RAEBIA).

Plan International and RAEBIA handed over Covid19 prevention equipment to two primary schools in Remexiu, Aileu Municipality. The donation is to help the Municipal Directorate of Education to effectively comply with government’s health and safety measures to mitigate the risk of infection.

The ceremony was attended by the European Union Ambassador Andrew Jacobs, the Director of Education of Aileu Municipality Cristina Ximenes, the Police District Commander, the Director of RAEBIA Mateus Maia, the Representative of Plan International, the Directors of the two schools in Remexiu, and teachers and students.

The Covid19 prevention equipment handed over includes: information and awareness posters, water tanks with a capacity of 320 litres, hand sanitizer, thermometers, facemasks and hand soaps. An estimated 751 people will benefit from the donation, including students, teachers and administrative staff.

The donation is provided under the initiative “Improving the capacity of Civil Society Organisations to raise awareness and promote initiatives addressing climate change in Timor-Leste”, implemented by Plan International and RAEBIA and supported by the European Union with a contribution of USD 700,000.

“In Timor-Leste the European Union is pleased to have made available over USD 3.5 million USD worth of support to help mitigate the effects of Covid-19. The supply of masks, hand sanitizer, soaps, water tanks and thermometers will make the schools in Remexiu safer and more accessible during this challenging period”, said Andrew Jacobs, European Union Ambassador to Timor-Leste.
