The Delegation of European Union to Thailand is recruiting a temporary Local Press and Information Assistant for the Political, Press and Information Section for a duration of 12 months starting on 1 February 2020. The temporary Local Press and Information Assistant is tasked with promoting public awareness about the European Union in Thailand.

We are

The European Union (EU) is a political union composed of 28 European countries. It plays an important global role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development co-operation and working with international partners and organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented by 142 diplomatic missions, known as EU Delegations, which effectively serve as EU embassies.

We offer

We offer a position as temporary Local Press and Information Assistant for a duration of 12 months from 1 February 2020. The successful candidate will assist the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section in liaising with Thai and foreign media, overseeing the Delegation’s online presence (website and social media) and organising cultural as well as public diplomacy activities.

Functions and duties:

  • Respond to press queries, liaise with Thai and foreign media, and organise activities to maintain and increase good relations with them.
  • Oversee compilation and distribution of the daily press review summarising the most relevant items in the Thai press.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations in English and Thai.
  • Organise the Delegation’s cultural and public diplomacy activities, including negotiations with service providers, and serve as focal point for the publicity of major events organised by the Delegation.
  • Maintain and update the Delegation’s online presence (social media and website).
  • Produce information and promotional materials, from developing concept to dissemination (e-newsletter, brochures, reports, photo exhibition, testimonial videos, gadgets, etc.)
  • Contribute to Press and Information work-plan and annual reports.
  • Manage Press and Information budget.
  • Oversee communication work of EU-funded projects in coordination with the Cooperation Section and Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI) sections.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant University degree in subjects such as Political Science, Communications or similar. A post-graduate degree in the area of expertise would be an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years working experience in a relevant field. Knowledge of the European Union, its rules and functioning would be an asset.
  • Excellent command of English and Thai (written and spoken). Knowledge of another European language, especially French, would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to listen, to consult and to share information and ideas.
  • Self-motivation, ability to work independently and as a member of a multicultural team.
  • Capacity to focus on priorities and to organise work and deliver on time.
  • Flexibility to work under pressure and to respond quickly to new demands.
  • Ability to negotiate at all levels in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
  • A keen interest in promoting cooperation between Europe and Thailand/Southeast Asia.

The procedure

After the deadline, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will shortlist candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their applicati

on letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to participate in a written assessment and, if successful, to a final interview.
