Waves is a historical drama set in Czechoslovakia during the pivotal years 1967–1968, when the country experienced a brief political liberalization known as the Prague Spring, followed by the military invasion of the Warsaw Pact led by Soviet forces. Young technician Tomáš joins Czechoslovak Radio, where journalists fight censorship. When the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact begins, he must choose between protecting his brother and supporting colleagues who risk their lives to keep truthful broadcasts alive.
In his most ambitious film yet, director Jiří Mádl uncovers real historical events and delivers an espionage thriller about the importance of family, fighting for freedom, and one recording that could change the course of history.
