Welcome to our homepage.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the homepage of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kingdom of Thailand.
The European Union (EU) and Thailand have had a close and longstanding relationship spanning nearly four decades. Thailand is a close partner for us, a key country playing a strategic role in not just in ASEAN and Southeast Asia, but also Asia as a whole.
Our interaction is manifold, ranging from a strong political partnership to a deep economic interdependence. The European Union is Thailand's third trading partner and third source of foreign direct investment. We also are partners in issues such a s promotion of Sustainable Development Goals. The Kingdom's key role in this regards is largely due to the legacy of the important work of His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyuadej and his sufficiency economy philosophy.
After some more quiet years in our relationship, we look forward to taking the EU – Thailand relationship to a new level once an elected government is in place, following upcoming parliamentary elections, which should signify Thailand's return to democracy. In this context, returning to negotiations on an EU-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) would mean starting to put in place new opportunities to accelerate the growth of Thai exports to the EU. With this in mind, we are ready for a full resumption of official FTA negotiations with Thailand once an elected government is in place.
Thus, we have a lot of work ahead of us. In this context, I am honoured by the responsibility of leading our competent team and working closely with our Member States to strengthen the EU-Thailand relationship in all aspects including political partnership, trade, cooperation, environment, climate change, democracy, good governance, human rights and cultural diplomacy as well as working on regional cooperation to address global challenges.
This webpage essentially serves as the gateway to our activities both in Thailand and at home in Europe. I very much hope that you will find the information on our webpage useful. At the same time, I would also like to invite you to follow us on Facebook: @EUinThailand to get newsfeeds on our upcoming events and news updates.
If you have any requests or queries for us, you are welcome to contact our team.
