‘Pride, Hearts, Action!’ European Union, Australia, Canada and United Kingdom celebrate love, rights and equality with Thailand

The event, dedicated to the Thai LGBTQIA+ community, aimed to underscore the solidarity of the host countries in promoting full and equal human rights by LGBTQIA+ persons, without discrimination. More than 250 guests attended, including representatives from the Royal Thai Government, Thai Parliament, diplomatic corps, civil society, press and LGBTQIA+ community.

The Guest of Honour was HE Ms Jiraporn Sindhuprai, Minister attached to the Office of the Prime Minister. Minister Jiraporn’s keynote speech, delivered on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, highlighted that the Marriage Equality Act was ‘a bold step forward’ for justice and inclusion in Thailand, affirming that ‘love knows no gender.’ She emphasised that while challenges remain, the Act marks the beginning of a journey towards full equality, and the government remains committed to continued progress through reform, education, and dialogue.
Chargée d’Affaires a.i. of the European Union Ms Sara Rezoagli congratulated Thailand on the marriage equality law, which exemplifies the country’s steady progress and pioneering accomplishment in embracing diversity, promoting equality and standing for love and acceptance. Ms Rezoagli said, ‘we are here today to reaffirm our commitment to the universal human rights of all LGBTQIA+ persons. The theme for this year, “Pride, Hearts, Action!” is a powerful reminder that inclusion begins with recognition and change comes through action.’

Ambassador of the United Kingdom HE Mr Mark Gooding OBE stated that while there is much to celebrate, such as Thailand’s and the UK’s progress on marriage equality, Pride remains a powerful reminder of the ongoing need to confront discrimination and push for real, lived equality. He emphasised that inclusive societies not only uphold human dignity but also drive prosperity, resilience, and innovation, and reaffirming the UK’s commitment to standing with all those advocating for freedom, dignity and equal rights.
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Australia Ms Julia Feeney reinforced the importance of building and maintaining environments that embrace diversity. She said, ‘Australia is proud to partner with the European Union, Canada and United Kingdom for this celebration in Thailand. We all have a role to play in ensuring people can be true to themselves and be accepted and celebrated for who they are. Diversity strengthens all of us, across all areas of the community.’
Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Canada Mr Sanjeev Chowdhury reiterated the international community’s solidarity with all stakeholders. He said ‘we commend the individuals and organisations who work tirelessly for positive change in communities and workplaces. This includes civil society, media organisations as well as those working in arts and cultural sectors.’
The evening included a performance by Purenessly, Winner of The Voice All Stars Thailand and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, networking opportunities and activities booths highlighting gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights initiatives led by the co-hosting embassies’ partners. The rainbow Pride flag and vibrant setting of the event served as a reminder of the identity and strength in being Born This Way!
