CONNECTING TANZANIA TO THE ENERGY OF TOMORROW

Tanzania and the European Union are working together to accelerate the transition to green energy. Through Global Gateway and the international pledging campaign ‘Scaling up Renewables in Africa’, the European Union is leading efforts to rapidly expand renewable energy across the continent, aiming to triple clean energy capacity by 2030. In Tanzania this means investing in hydroelectric dams, electrification and transmission lines to provide clean, reliable and affordable electricity. These efforts create a positive impact on people’s lives, today and tomorrow.

Meet Ahmed

I’m Ahmed, and I run a bar at Bahari Beach in Dar es Salaam. Whether guests come for music, a game of pool, or to relax by the ocean, I’ve created a space where good vibes and good company come together.

I’m glad that sustainable energy is making power more reliable, because just like a great night out, energy needs to flow smoothly.

With clean energy, I can keep the drinks cold, the lights on, and the beach vibes going strong every night. If my bar becomes more energy-efficient, I won’t just be serving my community, I’ll be helping build a brighter future, one evening at a time.

Meet Fatuma

I’m Fatuma, and I work at a men’s boutique in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam. After long hours on my feet, I head to the football field to train and play with my team.

I’m grateful that sustainable energy is making sports facilities more reliable, so we can keep practicing at night, under the lights.

With better lighting and access to energy, I can stay in shape and keep chasing my dream. As energy access keeps improving, I’ll be able to keep playing the beautiful game, just like the next generations in Tanzania.

Scaling up Renewables in Africa campaign

Part of a bigger mission

Africa has the power to become the most sustainable continent in the world. But despite this potential, millions of people across the continent still lack access to electricity. As Africa’s population and global climate challenges grow, the ‘Scaling up Renewables in Africa’ pledging campaign aims to unlock that potential. This transition via Global Gateway investments will provide affordable, sustainable, and reliable energy to the African people, while creating jobs and driving long-term growth.
