12/05/2021 - 16:40
Online activitiesCourses & workshops

The prevalence and consequences of domestic violence are widely discussed, but the question of how to combat this problem has not yet been resolved. The European Convention on Human Rights is an effective mechanism for protecting the rights of victims at supranational level. Over the years, the ECHR has developed exemplary practice that takes into account the diversity of forms of domestic violence, reactions of the authorities, as well as practices and standards to reduce the number of future incidents.

On May 27, 2021 from 12:00 to 13:30 (Moscow time), a webinar will be held, with the support of the European Union, during which lawyer Alexandra Suchkova will:

• talk about how the ECHR deals with cases of domestic violence and violence against women: rights involved, guarantees provided, key aspects of the cases and standards developed;

• analyze the ECHR judgment in the case of Volodina vs Russia of July 9, 2019 - the first and key Russian case in the sphere of domestic violence;

• give an overview of communicated complaints of domestic violence and violence against women filed against Russia.

Participation in the webinar is free.
