Flickerfest, Sydney’s Academy® qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival partners with EU in Australia to present a work selection of the best EU short filmmakers

Flickerfest, Sydney’s Academy® qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival celebrates 31 years in 2022 and is again rolling out the red carpet at Bondi. Join us this summer in their bespoke festival garden, including The Famous Spiegeltent indoor cinema, an outdoor lawn cinema and festival garden bar in partnership with Waverly council.  With over 200 shorts screening across 29 competitive programmes and showcase sessions, Flickerfest 2022 features a glittering line-up of short film stars in an astounding programme of the best short films from Australia and the world, handpicked from a record 3100 entries.

From 2016 to 2020, Flickerfest enjoyed a successful 5-year partnership with The European Union Delegation to Australia, showcasing European Union films to audiences across Australia, providing a significant platform for short filmmakers from the European Union.

The partnership with the European Union Delegation to Australia (EUDEL) at that time was a high profile one reinforcing our strong ties with the European film community, EU film organisations and associations and EU country filmmakers. Flickerfest strongly recognises the tradition of European cinema in influencing global cinema and we have a demonstrated commitment to highlighting the achievements of European Union short filmmakers, celebrating the EU’s long held tradition of bold and entertaining films that inform cinema trends and showcasing EUDEL’s place in Australia as a cultural ambassador for filmmaking and the arts.

Flickerfest is delighted to partner with EUDEL to Australia once again in 2022 to present a selection of incredible and creative European Union finalists handpicked from our Academy@ Qualifying International competition at Flickerfest 2022, which will screen on Saturday the 29th of January at 6.30pm. On Sunday the 30th of January our celebration of EU cinema at Flickerfest will culminate in the presentation of The European Union In Australia Award for Best European Union film of Flickerfest 2022.

After the Flickerfest Sydney festival the EU Short Film Showcase programme will also celebrate and share incredible European Union cinema on tour to Brisbane at Palace Cinemas James St Fortitude Valley in March 2022.

The Finalists for the Best Of EU showcase and award will be announced when the full Flickerfest programme is released on the 20th December 2021. For more information on Flickerfest please go to www.flickerfest.com.au
