The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Office in Taipei represents the European Union to Taiwan. The various responsibilities of the EU Office include fostering relations between the EU and Taiwan.
We offer
We offer a Temporary Local Agent post as Policy Officer in the Trade Section for the estimated period of five months, planned starting date would be from around 15 October 2022. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Office. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Temporary Policy Officer in the Trade Section – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Office. Under this job function the successful candidate will perform the Policy Officer tasks as per job description (see attachment) under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Trade section.
The post offered is Temporary Local Agent – Group I based in Taipei. We offer a competitive position in an international environment.
Selection Criteria
Minimum Requirements:
- University degree in Economics/Law/Trade/Business administration/Sinology or related field;
- At least 3 years of relevant working experience;
- Excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English;
- Strong sense of responsibility. Ability to work in a proactive and autonomous way and as part of a team;
- Very good analytical capability as well as drafting and reporting skills. Rapid grasp of problems and capacity to identify issues and solutions;
- Capacity to work and communicate under time constraints in a multilingual and –cultural environment;
- Medically fit to perform the required duties;
- Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law.
The following will be considered an asset:
- Previous working experience in international organisations;
- Good knowledge about the EU.
- Other EU language spoken and written skills

The procedure
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
The candidates, who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Office will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
