An Ambitious EU Space Program benefiting U.S. partners

In the margins of the 70th International Astronautical Congress that took place in Washington, DC on 21-25 October 2019, the EU Delegation to the U.S. organized a breakfast event with Pierre Delsaux, the Deputy Director General who oversees EU Space Policy at the European Commission.

During this event, Pierre Delsaux spoke about the EU's ambitious plans to boost EU space activities after 2020. The European Commission has recently proposed a €16bn budget (or about $18bn) for the EU Space Program under the next 7-year multiannual financial framework of the EU.

The program will include:- Galileo and EGNOS, the EU's global and regional satellite navigation systems- Copernicus, the EU's Earth Observation program- Space Situational Awareness/space surveillance tracking, and- Governmental Satellite Communication

Pierre Delsaux also spoke about the transatlantic and international dimension of those programs, and took questions from the audience, including U.S. counterparts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
