On February 14, the European Union Delegation to Malawi, United Purpose, ICRAF, Association of Environmental Journalists, and Bunda Female Students Organisation (BUFESO) joined the Tilinawo Herbalists Climate Change Association in planting 5000 indigenous & grafted fruit trees at Thomas Village, Senior Chief Kaluluma, in Kasungu.

EU recognises the vital role the forestry sector plays in Malawi. The EU has been funding the forestry sector since 1997. Over this period, more than 25 million indigenous trees have been protected and further 2 million trees have been planted.

We are glad that Kasungu District Council Officials, Senior Chief Kaluluma and the entire community, people of different age groups participated in this noble exercise. EU believes that the involvement of communities and building ownership of forest resources is a firm foundation to sustainable forest management.
