The global IDAHOT theme for 2025 chosen by Civil Society Organisations is “The Power of Communities”. What does this motto mean to you personally?

Communities in our society usually emerge based on the commonalities between very different people. Probably no other community illustrates this better than the queer community. We are a colorful bunch of people. We differ in sexuality, identity, religion, origin, and appearance. And yet we stick together—because we are connected by something: the fight for equality, acceptance, and visibility. I feel this power very strongly when, after a year of intensive preparation, I stand backstage at the BernPride Festival on the plaza in front of the Swiss Federal Palace and see 10,000 people who feel like they have “arrived.” This feeling is indescribable and spurs me on endlessly. In moments like these, but also in everyday life, I realize that solidarity is a cornerstone of our society. And this cornerstone must be protected at all costs! Because without solidarity, there are no communities. And without communities, there is no power.

In what ways does your work contribute to political and social change in Switzerland and across Europe and how do you view the role of European collaboration in strengthening advocacy for LGBTQIA+ communities?

My job is to work behind the scenes to ensure that every year thousands of people can demonstrate, celebrate, laugh, love, and just be themselves on the streets of Switzerland's federal capital. I'm not the type of person who stands on stage or marches at the front of a demonstration — I use my expertise in the background. For example, I founded the association that organizes the BernPride. Or communicating the association's work to the outside world. But political and social change never happens through individuals, but through good teams. And that's exactly what BernPride is – I'm just a cog in the wheel.  What's important to us is working together with other Pride organizations. Because together, we can achieve more. For this reason, the BernPride is also a member of the European Pride Organizers Association. This shows that solidarity can and must transcend national borders. Because we are fighting the same fight everywhere.
