Guidelines for the Photo Competition 2021

The 8th March marks the International Women’s Day (IWD). In the build up to this important celebration, the Delegation of the European Union to South Sudan is organising a photo competition. The competition will be under the theme: Inspirational Women in South Sudan.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition Inspirational Women in South Sudan is open to South Sudanese citizens living in the country. EU Delegation Employees or their close relatives such as spouse, parents, siblings, and children and household members are ineligible to participate. Submitted photos which are not related to the theme or do not comply with the present rules will be ineligible.

ENTRY PERIOD

The Competition runs from 15 February to 03 March 2021. Email bearing a date following the 25 February will not be accepted. 

ENTRY AND REQUIREMENTS

The photo competition will be launched on social and traditional media. Each participant provides one photo capturing inspirational activity/image of South Sudanese women “choosing to challenge”, by going beyond stereotypes, by taking on leading or public roles and the alike.

Submit your entry to DELEGATION-SOUTH-SUDAN@eeas.europa.eu via email with subject starting by Inspirational Women.

Participants shall accompany their photos with their coordinates: First Name and Surname, Date of Birth, Nationality, email, telephone/WhatsApp and short captions of the photo in English outlining the theme, the context, location and shot date. The photos shall fulfil the following requirements: 1) Image files should not be less than 2 megabytes and not more than 10 megabytes in jpeg.  It must be at least 770 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 770 pixels tall (if a vertical image). It could go as far as 1600 pixels. Mobile photographs are exempt from this requirement but must be submitted at their highest resolution. 2)  Photos should neither violate the rights of a third party, nor contain offensive content. 3) No entries, regardless of categories, must violate the intellectual property rights of third parties. 4) All entries must be original works produced by the participant which have not been published anywhere.

SELECTION PROCESS

A preselection of 20 best pictures will be made and from them, a jury comprising EU Delegation staff and possibly external members will select three winners. This selection will be based on photographic quality, originality and the inspirational value of the chosen subject, and will be completed around the 8th of March 2021.

AWARDS

At least the three best photographs will receive in-kind prizes (one winner a laptop, another a mobile phone and others EU-flagged equipment such as USB sticks and umbrellas).   The best pictures could be used to contribute to communication products used by the EU Delegation marking the International Women’s Day and promoting gender equality on social media.

By entering this Contest, participant acknowledges that: the submitted picture is his/her original work  and does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in it. The EU Delegation will not accept any liability or obligation about contestants’ artworks. All applicants will retain the intellectual property rights on the contents of their submissions. However, by entering the competition, each applicant grants the EU right and license to use, reproduce, communicate, demonstrate, make available for public display and distribute the content of his/her submission for promotional, informational and educational or awareness purposes, via printed or digital or online media, including websites.
