Joint Statements

The European Union Delegation to the Republic of South Sudan, the Heads of Mission of France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden, and the Heads of Mission of Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom issue the following statement in South Sudan.

The Heads of Mission express deep concern regarding reports of high levels of inter-communal violence in Jonglei, as well as in other parts of South Sudan. While we appreciate that the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement is largely holding nationwide, this inter-communal violence is causing death, injury, displacement and livelihood loss to thousands of civilians in areas where people have already been suffering from the impact of recent floods and from high levels of severe food insecurity.

We urge the R-TGoNU and all relevant stakeholders to redouble efforts to calm the situation through dialogue and mediation, and to facilitate secure access for humanitarian workers so that they can deliver much needed life-saving assistance.
