The European Union (EU) and the Republic of Korea (Korea) share the goal to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to foster more resource efficient and greener economies. Both the EU and Korea are strongly committed to implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement and delivering on their respective domestic commitments under the Agreement. Ambitious climate action at all levels is needed to achieve those goals. The purpose of this project is to strengthen networking, dialogue and cooperation among Korean stakeholders and between Korea and the EU to enhance climate action at the non-state actors’ level.
The main communication instrument of the project is its bilingual, English-Korean interactive website www.climateaction-korea.eu that features news, project updates and best practices for climate action from both the EU and Korea. This platform is designed to promote interactions among climate action stakeholders from both regions. It serves as repository of information and knowledge-base for climate action in the EU and in Korea along the identified priority areas. Through an exclusive member access area, registered users can upload and exchange information as well as screen information for match-making purposes between stakeholder needs and offerings.
The project supports the creation of Climate Partnerships between Korean and European non-state climate actors who are interested in implementing Climate Actions on priority areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency in buildings, sustainable mobility, circular economy and best low-carbon business practices. The project publishes calls for expression of interest (EoI), in response to which interested climate partners can submit proposals for Joint Research or Pilot Projects that contribute to Korea’s GHG emission reduction efforts. The project also organises annual flagship events, workshops, matchmaking events, seminars, public debates and dialogues, joint initiatives and study tours to complement the exchange under the digital EU-Korea Climate Action Platform.
