The European Union contributed to the 5th EU-ROK International Conference on Middle Eastern and North African Affairs (MENA) hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of korea as a co-organiser on 2-3 May.
Michael Reiterer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea delivered welcoming remarks addressing the EU's commitment to supporting crisis management and international efforts towards peace.
Ambassador Reiterer said "We are pleased by the commitments demonstrated by the Republic of Korea in supporting the region. This was demonstrated during the Third Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region."
In particular, he noted the Republic of Korea's agreement to provide 12 million US dollars to assist peole in Syria and neighbouring countries. "Korea is supporting a project designed to improve food security and provide livelihoods for Afghan refugees in Iran. We encourage the RoK to continue such actions. The EU is readay to enhance cooperation and coordination with the RoK. We see Korea as a partner in supporting multilateralism and diplomacy in the region," said the EU Ambassador.
