An EU Delegation led by the EU Ambassador to Korea H.E. Ms Maria CASTILLO-FERNANDEZ visited Busan on 18-19 March to further deepen cooperation between Europe and Busan City in the areas of aviation, port, smart mobility and connectivity.
Ambassador CASTILLO-FERNANDEZ has visited Korean Air Maintenance Centre at Gimhae Airport, where an MoU between the the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on aviation safety cooperation is in place. She also met with Busan Port Authority to discuss Busan's close ties with Europe's major port cities such as Barcelona, Hamburg and Rotterdam. The EU Ambassador then met with Busan Customs and representatives of European businesses in Busan. On 19 March, she visited the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to discuss its partnership with Airbus. Lastly, Ambassador had a courtesy meeting hosted by Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin of Busan Metropolitan City.
In a meeting with Acting Mayor Lee, Ambassador CASTILLO-FERNANDEZ said "Busan has transformed itself into a green and open hub for aviation, ports, smart mobility and connectivity compared to 15 years ago, and we have much to learn from each other."
Acting Mayor Lee thanked the EU Ambassador for visiting Busan and said "we will continue to work closely with our sister cities Barcelona, Hamburg and Rotterdam in Europe."
