The EU and the Republic of Korea joining forces to boost their transition to clean energy, low-carbon and resource-efficient economies

On 24 October 2019, experts from the European Union and the Republic of Korea exchanged  views on their respective policies and on the prospects to further enhance bilateral cooperation in order to boost their transition to clean energy, low-carbon and resource-efficient economies. This was the second annual meeting of the European Union (EU) - Republic of Korea Working Group on Energy, Environment and Climate Change, taking place this year in Seoul. Read more

EU Ambassador Meets With President Moon Jae-in

EU Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Michael Reiterer attended President Moon Jae-in’s reception with foreign diplomats held at the Blue House on 18 October. He conveyed the message that the EU supports denuclearisation negotiations with the DPRK and that the EU is a reliable economic partner as the number 1 investor and number 3 trading partner of the RoK.  Read more


The EU and the National Human Rights Commission of Korea Co-hosts the 4th ASEM Conference on Global Aging and Human Rights of Older Persons

The European Union and the National Human Rights Commission of Korea led by the Chairperson Choi Young-ae co-hosted the two-day 4th ASEM Conference on Global Aging and Human Rights of Older Persons at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, Korea. Michael Reiterer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea underscored the significance of a “human rights approach to aging”, and said that “senior citizens and workers are not mere statistical data but persons”. He added that “older people have contributed to society, and they have the capacity to continue in the future.” Read more


1st EU Delegation Blog Reporters Programme Launched

On 7 October, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea selected and announced 15 Blog Reporters who will write and publish contents about the European Union, the EU-RoK relations, the EU Delegation and their own experiences with the EU on Naver blogs. The first Blog Reporters project aims to enhance visibility and understanding of the EU in the Republic of Korea by providing more available information about the EU in Korean language on the RoK's largest portal site Naver. Portraits of G20 Ambassadors on Display

In celebration of Hangeul (Korean Language) Day on October 9, Ambassador Michael Reiterer attended the G20 Special Exhibition of calligraphy, painting, seal engraving for the peace and prosperity of the world. The portraits of 14 ambassadors to the Republic of Korea among G20 members and Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha were on display at a special exhibition in Seoul from Oct. 8 to 14. The exhibition also features the names of the 15 diplomats in calligraphy and seal engraving. Read more

New publication: 2019 Science, Technology and Innovation in Europe

The EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea has newly published ‘2019 Science, Technology and Innovation in Europe' book. This annual book shows well that STI excellence of Europe, research and innovation policies, initiatives and programmes of respective Member States, and in particular, tailored R&I cooperation programmes with the Republic of Korea. We hope that this book would help Europe and the Republic of Korea to tackle global challenges such as the 4th Industrial Revolution together. Read more
