SPS-AGRI Promotion Seminar in Seoul, 20-21 March 2018

Four Seasons Hotel, 97 Saemunan-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul

EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement has been in place since 2011. It has offered an unprecedented easing of trade barriers as part of the first such deal negotiated between the EU and an Asian country.

In order to promote unique opportunities for agri-food products enabled by the Agreement, the European Commission is organising Promotion Seminar on Agri-food products and sanitary and phytosanitary standards (AGRI-SPS) in Seoul’s Four Seasons Hotel on 20-21 March 2018.

The seminar, bringing together acknowledged European experts from the field of food safety and quality policy on the one hand, and representatives of Korean authorities, importers, retailers, journalists and researchers on the other, will provide an avenue for presentation of practical EU approaches concerning sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues, labelling, controls, organic products as well as geographical indications. At the same time, the event will invite Korean stakeholders not only to share their views and expectations concerning safe food of high quality, but also to network with EU experts, representatives of EU Member States and business people.

Participants to the seminar will be invited to witness and taste a selection of top European food products, carefully prepared for them during a live cooking show by renowned chefs invited specifically to the event.

Simultaneous interpretation English-Korean will be provided.

Apart from dedicated expert sessions covering different topics of SPS and quality standards, the key feature of the event will be a Roundtable debate: “Entering Korean market: ways forward, points to consider”.

This debate will gather importers, exporters, competent Korean authorities, chambers of commerce, representatives of major retail chains in Korea in a moderated discussion on how to best approach different Korean regulatory issues related to imports of agri-food products. The Roundtable aims at providing better mutual understanding for a range of issues encompassing quality and safety standards for agri-food trade.
