Statements on behalf of the EU

From Tuesday 26th September, the Commission's online portal "Export Helpdesk" will change its name into "Trade Helpdesk" ( – your online guide to access Europe's market". The portal was initially designed to inform exporters in developing countries on the EU's rules and regulations for market access for goods but now it covers all countries with whom the EU has trade agreements. As more and more users within and outside the EU consult our services we have revamped the site.

The following new features bring, we believe, add value to the service:

  1. The new name more clearly shows the purpose of this portal

  2. The new layout and structure displays better on mobile devices

  3. The entry point to the database (search form) comes at the top of the homepage

  4. We have improved the chapters "product requirements" and "rules of origin"

A quick glance at the EU Trade Helpdesk and its value for business

Within a few minutes companies can check:

  • The duties they pay at customs
  • Health, safety, marketing and technical standards their products need to meet
  • Rules of origin define under which conditions they can claim preferential duty rates under the trade agreement applying to the exporting country
  • Internal taxes applied in the importing EU country
  • Forms to send with their shipments
  • Trade statistics related to their product

Note that product requirements can now be checked in two ways: via the main menu under "requirements" or via a search on the basis of a concrete product and exporting country in the database.
