Today, 15 June 2017, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea co-hosted

Future Energy Forum 2017: New Government and its Energy Policies with Chosun Media Group - Korea’s oldest news agency and one of the most trusted and influential media in the country.  


The Forum was opened by Chosun Biz CEO Mr Eui Dal Song, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Mr Taehee Woo, as well as Member of the National Assembly Mr Kumju Son. Dr Joëlle Hivonnet, Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union delivered welcoming remarks, reiterating the EU leadership and commitment to international efforts to tackle climate change.


Following the recent announcement of the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, the European Union and its partners from across the world are ready to lead the way. 


The EU and its Member States remain committed  to meeting their Paris Agreement target of reducing EU-wide emissions by at least 40% by 2030. 


EU policies, such as EU 2030 Framework for climate and energy, will help the EU achieve a more competitive, secure and sustainable energy system, to deliver emission reductions in all sectors of the economy, prioritise energy efficiency and boost uptake of renewable energy.


As co-organiser of the Forum, the EU Climate Outreach Project in Korea (funded by the EU Partnership Instrument), secured presence of two high level EU speakers.  Professor Jan Peter Balkenende, Former Netherlands Prime Minister and Chairman of Dutch Sustainable Growth Coalition spoke about Energy policies of EU and the Netherlands and Mr Xavier Daval, CEO of KiloWattsol and Vice President of the French Renewable Energies Industry Association spoke about business perspectives on renewable and, in particular, solar energy.
