DELEGATION TO THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
Remarks by Dr Riina Kionka, EU Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, on the occasion of presenting her credentials to President Cyril Ramaphosa
(Presidential Guesthouse, Pretoria)
I bring you warm greetings from Presidents Tusk and Juncker, who asked me to pass on their great appreciation for last year’s EU-South Africa Summit.
We look forward to starting work on our next summit, this time with the new EU leadership. It is important to keep the momentum in our Strategic Partnership.
And, Mr President, partnership is the key word here:
First, the EU is your number one partner in trade and investment: it is in our mutual interest to find ways to boost trade, investment and tourism.
Second, the EU is also your most important and reliable transformation partner to address the lasting legacies of the past. We will also continue to engage with you in support of your National Development Plan.
Third, we are also partners on global issues such as upholding the international rules based order, promoting human rights and fighting climate change.
Ndo Livhuwa, Muphuresidente!
