The year 2017 is a milestone in many ways. It marks 60 years of European integration, 50 years since the establishment of ASEAN, and 40 years of the ASEAN-EU partnership. Today, ASEAN and the EU represent the two most advanced examples of regional integration in the world, bringing together more than 1 billion
people.

The EU and ASEAN are deepening policy dialogue and partnership, in order to tackle common global challenges – ranging from the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, to delivering on our climate change commitments, and from tackling gender inequalities, to expanding our cooperation on regional and global security issues. The EU-ASEAN Blue Book provides ample evidence of the breadth and the depth of what we can achieve when we work together.
