Presentation of Credentials Ceremony
President Tharman welcomed the Ambassador and expressed his best wishes for a successful term.
Both reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Singapore and the European Union, as well as a shared commitment to enhanced cooperation in a complex geopolitical environment. This deepening collaboration finds its foundation in a commitment to multilateralism, to the rules-based international order and the principles of the United Nations Charter, principles that are underpinnings for security and prosperity.
Their discussions covered the importance of enhancing collaboration in trade, the digital and green transformations and security - key pillars of the growing EU-Singapore relationship. They looked ahead to 2027, which will mark 60 years of ASEAN and the 50th anniversary of EU-ASEAN Dialogue Relations, a milestone that underscores five decades of friendship and cooperation.
The Ambassador noted that the EU remains strongly committed to advancing this partnership. “As we approach the 50th anniversary of EU-ASEAN relations, with Singapore as Chair of ASEAN, we have a unique opportunity to deepen our cooperation in building a more connected, secure and sustainable future,” he said.
