HR/VP Kaja Kallas wraps up a successful visit to Singapore

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President Kaja Kallas concluded a successful visit to Singapore. 

HR/VP participated in the 22nd IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, where she delivered a speech in one of the event’s plenary sessions. She underlined Russia’s violation of international law, the interconnectedness of the security challenges faced by Europe and Asia, and presented the EU’s offer of reliable partnerships on trade, innovation, green transition and – increasingly – security.

During her visit the HR/VP had productive bilateral meetings with the leaders of Singapore, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence WongForeign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing.  In his post on Facebook, PM Wong wrote: “Singapore and the EU are natural partners committed to a rules-based multilateral order and open trade. We reaffirmed strong ties, discussed global challenges, and are looking at strengthening EU-ASEAN/CPTPP ties.”

Other bilateral meetings were with the defence ministers of Australia and the Philippines.

There were extensive media engagements with international and Singapore media that included a press call and one on one interviews with leading daily The Straits Times and television networks CNBC and Channel NewsAsia.

An hour-long visit to the Asian Civilisations Museum  – the only museum in the region devoted to exploring the rich and diverse artistic heritage of Asia – offered a window into the past and the present, as well as insights into the shaping of cultural identities in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Announcement of HR/VP's visit

High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas travels to Singapore and the Philippines

High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas will travel to Singapore and the Philippines from 30 May to 2 June. During her trip, she will take part in the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue and meet with regional leaders. 

On 31 May, High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas will deliver a speech during the second plenary session titled ‘Ensuring stability in a competitive world’ at the Shangri-La Dialogue. In Singapore, High Representative/Vice-President Kallas will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister of Defence Chan Chun Sing. 

In the Philippines, High Representative/Vice-President Kallas will meet President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on 2 June. On the same day, she will meet Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo, followed by a press conference. A recording will be available on EBS.

The High Representative/Vice-President will also meet with Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Ronnie Gil Gavan and National Security Adviser Eduardo Año. At De La Salle University she will meet with students for a town hall meeting and she will also meet with civil society representatives.
