European Union celebrates Sierra Leone’s creative talent through Culture Moves Salone

The European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone on Friday 8th May 2026, celebrated the awardees of Culture Moves Salone, an initiative supporting artists, cultural practitioners, and creative organisations across Sierra Leone through regional mobility, exchange, and professional development opportunities.

The event brought together 25 awardees from the first two funding rounds of the programme, recognising projects that promote cultural innovation, storytelling, heritage preservation, artistic collaboration, and skills development.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Ambassador of the European Union to Sierra Leone highlighted the transformative role of culture in strengthening connections between people and creating opportunities for young creatives.

“Culture Moves Salone is more than an initiative. It is a bridge between Africa and Europe, built not only on funding, but on trust, partnership, and shared creation,” the Ambassador said.

The supported initiatives include projects in music, photography, visual arts, digital creativity, heritage preservation, and cultural exchange. Through the Africa–Europe Partnerships for Culture, the programme aims to strengthen Sierra Leone’s cultural and creative sectors while fostering collaboration between African and European artists and institutions.

The awardees will participate in residencies, exchanges, festivals, training programmes, and collaborative artistic projects in Sierra Leone and across the region, contributing to the growth of the country’s creative economy and expanding international cultural networks.

The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s creative community and investing in culture as a driver of inclusion, innovation, economic opportunity, and dialogue.
