Increasing access of women to affordable financing and training in the sustainable energy market

The “Women Increasing Sustainable Energy Access and Use” project (in short WISE) was launched by EU Ambassador Tom Vens and the First Lady Madam Fatima Bio on 30th April in Freetown.

The EU is funding this project as part of a global initiative for women and sustainable energy in developing countries.

Covering Sierra Leone, Uganda and Kenya, WISE is expected to help women establish a business in the sustainable energy sector’s value chains by providing them with capital grants, technical and business trainings and linkages with business incubators in the sustainable energy market.

The €5.5 million initiative will be implemented by Barefoot Power together with Lutheran World Foundation, Mesics Foundation and Barefoot Solar Engineers Association of Sierra Leone over a period of five years.
