Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia in charge of European Affairs, Bujar Osmani, in Brussels.
In the discussion, High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini underlined once again that the historic Prespa agreement and its implementation is a remarkable achievement and an inspiration for the region and beyond. She commended the ongoing reform work in the country, stressing that it needs to continue with a high level of intensity, as sustained tangible reform results are indispensable for moving forward in the EU integration process.
Deputy Prime Minister Osmani briefed the High Representative on the reform agenda, including in the fields of independence of the judiciary, intelligence services and public administration, confirming the work will continue in an intensive way in the coming weeks and months.
The EU and North Macedonia will look at the progress achieved in more detail at the meeting of Stabilisation and Association Council on 19 March, the first one following the entry into force of Prespa agreement. The High Representative confirmed that the EU will continue to support and accompany the country on its path.
High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini and Deputy Prime Minister Osmani also discussed the situation in the wider region.
