Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries?

What do we offer?

A paid traineeship (maximum 6 months), subject to availability of the budget, in support of the economic cooperation activities in the Gulf and EU overall relations with Kuwait and Qatar.

Main tasks per section:

Contribute to the Delegation's important work on Economic cooperation and Kuwait/Qatar relations, especially by contributing to

  • Analyse the current and foreseen dynamics of EU and Kuwait/Qatar cooperation
  • Conduct short-term and longer term research on specific issues of interest
  • Draft notes, reports to Head of Delegation, Senior Counsellor and Head of Trade  to Brussels and to EU Member States
  • Strengthen the existing coordination and cooperation with EU Member States
  • Organize public diplomacy events
  • Support the EU Delegation in promoting trade and investment between EU and GCC, with particular emphasis on Qatar and Kuwait
  • Support to Economic and trade section in economic outreach, namely engagements on economic transformation and diversification activities
  • Support the Senior Counsellor's activities in Kuwait and Qatar on any other issue as appropriate

Are you eligible for remunerated traineeship?

You may apply for the traineeship if:

  • You are a young graduate with a University diploma (at least Bachelor's degree) in a field relevant to the 4 sections above
  • You have less than 1 year of professional experience
  • You are a national of an EU Member State, pre-accession State or the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC)
  • You have no previous professional experience of more than 6 weeks in any of the EU institutions

Additional qualifications that would be an asset:

  • Knowledge of Arabic
  • Additional degree in another field
  • Past experiences in KSA, GCC countries, or the Middle East

The Head of Delegation will decide the number of traineeships to be offered every year. The traineeship will be offered to the successful candidate(s) after prior approval from Headquarters.

Documents to be provided by the selected candidates within 2 weeks after

they have received the internship offer

  • Diploma
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Language certificates
  • Extract from the "judicial record"
  • Passport/ID card
  • Insurance certificate (repatriation included)
  • Medical certificate
  • Signed traineeship agreement

Before applying you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria* for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant of EUR 1.200 to cover living expenses. However costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview, which can be conducted over video/phone conference. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
