The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda Ambassador Michael Ryan on Monday opened a two day trade mission of several European renewable energy companies in Rwanda.

Text

The trade mission consists of up to 7 European companies from the European solar energy and small hydro power sector interested in the Eastern African Market, in particular Rwanda. Overall, nearly 70 Rwandan and European companies will participate in several networking seminars planned on March 6th and 7th in Kigali.

The visit is part of the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) and is organised in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board.

EU Ambassador Michael Ryan stated; “Europe is a worldwide leader for the development of sustainable energy, including in particular renewable energy or energy efficiency solutions. We can share this experience with Africa and Rwanda and our companies can make a valuable contribution in providing solutions for Rwanda.”

Rwanda has established ambitious targets for access to on-grid and off-grid electricity, and electricity generation in particular through renewable energy sources. The European Union is contributing to achieving these targets through a €200 million envelope part of the 11th European Development Fund implemented through budget support to the government.
