On the occasion of the Eastern Partnership leaders' meeting which took place via video conference on 18 June, EU leaders discussed with their six Eastern partners — Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine — the response to COVID-19, the consequences of the crisis, the strategic partnership and its future.


On 18 June, EU officials, representatives of Russian and European business communities and civil society met virtually to discuss EU and Russian climate strategies, the EU Green Deal and post-pandemic Recovery Plan and the relevance of these ambitious EU strategies for Russia.


“Everything is possible, no matter your gender, nationality, or traits. The key is to be open to the world and people, and to find ideas that will move you forward. It is awesome to have support of your family, and to meet like-minded people.” This is the main takeaway for one of the participants from a virtual three-day mentoring event for women that the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation organized on 9 – 11 June 2020.


This year, World Refugee Day comes at a time when the world is facing a global pandemic that has already cost the lives of thousands of people and is affecting the livelihood of millions more. The struggle is even harder for refugees, internally displaced persons, migrants and stateless persons. With limited or no access to medical care and protection mechanisms, these people are more vulnerable to the effects of this global crisis.

It is really evident that the virus pandemic has been accompanied by an ‘infodemic’, by a pandemic of disinformation. We have witnessed a wave of false and misleading information, and an exponential increase in targeted influence operations by foreign actors.

Over the past decades, companies have been organising their chains of production globally, looking at the comparative advantage of various production locations. It has brought more prosperity throughout the globe, including by bringing more people out of poverty than any other efforts.


High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell held a video conference with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday 16 June. They discussed EU-Russia bilateral relations as well as a range of pressing regional and international issues.

The High Representative/Vice President stressed that the coronavirus response requires international cooperation and solidarity, particularly as regards diagnostics, treatments and a vaccine, as well as assistance to vulnerable populations.
