President Michel concludes his trip to Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine

On 28 February – 3 March, President of the European Council visited Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine to discuss bilateral relations, the common fight against Covid-19, and the future of the Eastern Partnership.

Moldova

On 28 February President Michel travelled to Chisinau, where he met President Maia Sandu of Moldova. Their talks focused on the reforms in the country and on vaccinations against COVID-19. On 27 February, the first vaccines arrived in Moldova from Romania, with the support of the EU.

Georgia

On 1 March President Michel visited Georgia, where he met President Salome Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, Archil Talakvadze, the Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia, and representatives of the opposition.

“Our meeting tonight was an important step in the right direction. What counts for the EU is to protect the interests of Georgian citizens. Some questions remain unresolved but the will is there to find a political solution with all parties,” said Charles Michel, President of the European Council, after the meeting with Prime Minister Garibashvili and representatives of the opposition.

Ukraine

On 2 March, President Charles Michel travelled to eastern Ukraine where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and agencies involved in humanitarian action.

"The shameful reality is that people continue to die here and face dire consequences of the conflict. Until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements is a reality, EU sanctions against Russia will remain in place," stressed President Charles Michel in Donbas.
