The reception gathered more than 400 guests, including heads of missions and diplomats, editor-in-chiefs and journalists, NGO representatives and partners of the EU Delegation to Russia. Among the guests there were Alexander Grushko, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister, Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs, Chair of the Parliament European Club, Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, Ambassador at Large, Viktor Vekselberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Renova Group of Companies.
In his welcoming speech EU Ambassador Ederer pointed out:
"Yesterday's European Parliamentary elections have demonstrated that the Europeans stand by the European Union and the large majority wants their country to be part of the Union. The European Union has learned from its history that the way to overcome difficulties is to come together and build bridges instead of walls. We need and we want Russia as a partner in this."
The guests enjoyed national food cooked by the EU-MS embassies and could also write a message to the united Europe on special boards.
