On 29 October, on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions marked in Russia on 30 October since 1991, EU Ambassador to the Russian Federation Markus Ederer, together with several ambassadors of EU Member States and other representatives of the diplomatic corps, will pay tribute to the victims of repressions by laying flowers at the Solovetsky Stone monument at Lubyanka Square in Moscow.

On 30 October, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation Sven-Olov Carlsson, together with a number of EU diplomats, will go to the Butovo shooting range to attend the commemorating event "Voice of Remembrance".

Ahead of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions, Ambassador Ederer said: "Such commemorations are important. One must remember past tragic events to have the knowledge and strength to prevent them from being repeated. We must never take for granted the rights and freedoms we enjoy. The European Union continues to stand firm in defending fundamental rights, rule of law and democracy as well as the UN promoting these universal values."
