European Union Ambassador Franz Jessen has organised a reception today (7 June) in honor of outgoing Senator Loren Legarda for her role in strengthening EU-PH bilateral relations.
Ambassador Jessen was joined by Ambassadors Michel Goffin, Jana Sediva, Jan Top Christensen, Gordon Kricke, Jozsef Bencze, Saskia De Lang, Chargés d'affaires Jarosław Szczepankiewicz and Alastair Totty as well as Deputy Heads of Mission Christine Carole, Eugeniu Rotaru and Thomas Wiersing.
EU Ambassador Franz Jessen also took the opportunity to present an Award of Distinction to Senator Loren Legarda for her work as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and her role in the process of the ratification of the EU-Philippines Cooperation Agreement.
The Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the EU and the Philippines entered into force in March 2018. The Agreement provides a new and enhanced legal framework, enabling the European Union and the Philippines to strengthen their bilateral relationship, in particular on political, social and economic matters including human rights.
The PCA reflects the longstanding partnership that the European Union has with the people of the Philippines and the European Union's commitment to investing in a strong and beneficial relationship for both EU and Filipino citizens.
The Award of Distinction was launched by EU Ambassador Jessen in 2017 for individuals who have contributed to EU-PH bilateral relations. Previous awardees were Former Secretary Jesus Dureza and National Artist for Literature, F Sionil Jose.
