European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen today mapped out in her first annual State of the Union address, a path for the European Union to overcome the fragility laid bare by the coronavirus crisis and build a union of vitality.

On International Day of Democracy, the EU reaffirms its willingness to take a leadership role on democracy, working ever harder in supporting those who defend it, build it and hold decision makers accountable in these difficult times

Ahead of the International Day of Democracy, the High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell and the Vice-President Dubravka Šuica issued the following joint statement.

Today the European Union participated in the ASEAN Regional Forum following which the High Representative co-chaired with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Conference.

Dear friends, dear colleagues, dear Ministers,

Let me start by thanking Vietnam for assembling us today despite the difficult situation, and Singapore for the work you have done since 2018 as coordinator for EU-ASEAN relations.

WE, the Foreign Ministers of the ASEAN Regional Forum gathered today on the occasion of the 27th ASEAN Regional Forum on 12 September 2020 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam;

NOTING that considerable progress has been achieved in developing and applying the latest information technologies and means of telecommunication;

We, the Foreign Ministers of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Participants, gather today on the occasion of the 27th ASEAN Regional Forum on 12 September 2020 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.

WE, the Foreign Ministers of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Participants, namely Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, United States, Viet Nam and the High Representative of the European Union, gathered today, at the 27th ARF on 12 September 2020 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam,

The passion, romance, fire and fervour of the European verses interspersed with the Bicolano dialect continue this September to October through “Bersong Euro-Pinoy”.
