The European Union Delegation to the Philippines is honoring photographers in line with its 25th year anniversary.

EU Ambassador Franz Jessen together with Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Cleofe Natividad, Ms Rose Anne Belmonte, Chief Operations Officer,, Mr Joe Torres, Chairperson, Photojournalist's Center of the Philippines, opened the photo exhibition at the De La Salle University which displays the images featuring the perceptions of photographers and hobbyists about the European influences in the country dubbed "IC EUropa in U".

EU Delegation to the Philippines' First Secretary Mr Jérôme Rivière presented the Awards to Froi Rivera, Gold Awardee "Love for Football; Reu Dawner Flores, Silver Awardee "Wind Power"; and Carlo Zamora, Bronze Awardee, "Lilok". Certificates of Merit were provided to the photographers and photojournalists whose works were included in the photo exhibition. The major awardees received gadgets, tokens and trophies from the EU Delegation to the Philippines. In addition, the Gold Awardee received an online mentorship from the masters of photography, The Philippine Centre for Photojournalism, Inc.

Mr Rivière said that the photo competition was held to pay tribute to the works of photographers and photo hobbyists who are able to capture realities as they happen in our everyday lives. The IC EUropa in U was also conducted to determine perceptions of Filipinos about the European influences in the country.

The results were an interesting mix of images showcasing images about faith, religion, business, traditions and culture. The photographs also highlighted everyday encounters: children playing in the streets of Manila, a woman intimately sending her prayers to God via express way, a traveller spreading his wings dreaming of one day being able to take flight, artists doing what they do best in hopes of finally crafting what might be their Obra Maestra – some sort of Sui Generis – a representation of themselves outside of themselves.

The photos will continue to be exhibited at the De La Salle University for this week after which it will travel to the RCBC Plaza in Makati City where the EU Delegation is located. It will then move on to Shangri-La Plaza during the Cine Europa leg in Manila.

Online supporters cast votes for their favourite photograph thru Facebook and unanimous choice was the work of Nicko Rodriguez entitled "A "Woman of Great Nations".

This contest was conducted in partnership with the, The Photojournalists' Center of the Philippines, Inc., European Studies Association and Team Communication from De La Salle University, the LPU-Project for Asian and International Relations of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila, Euro-Filipino Understanding and Relations Organization of the University of the Philippines and the Association of European Studies Students of Ateneo De Manila University.
