The quality of utility services affects everyone's life. Belarusian citizens nowadays have limited access to the information on activities of utility companies. The introduction of a social reporting mechanism, providing for residents' active involvement in the sector development, will help improve the work of utility companies.
Goals and Objectives: Expand the involvement of nongovernmental organizations in the decision making of utility companies. Raise public awareness about the residents' rights and duties in the sphere of utility services.
Expected Interim Outcomes: Info centres providing information about operations of utility services in two pilot districts, Iŭje and Viliejka, were set up in social networks. Now, local residents can find out on time about all utilities developments, discuss hot topics and address questions to specialists.
Public charters, communications strategies and new websites were developed for utilities companies.
The project partners hold educational events on resources and energy saving for students and general public.
111 segregated waste collection containers, a plastic waste pressing and baling line and a garbage truck were procured with the project fund for Viliejka District. A water intake was upgraded in Iŭje District, including replacement of pipelines, valves and pumps with more modern and energy efficient equipment. The water supply station was automated and placed under dispatcher control, enabling water supply management in the city.
Two study visits to Germany and Estonia were arranged for representatives of utilities companies and nongovernmental organizations for learning about European experience in the sphere of utilities.
Two pilot initiatives of nongovernmental organizations on building a local water treatment plant in Iŭje District and a sustainable waste collection system in Viliejka District were launched.
