Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in the Philippines?

What do we offer?

Five traineeships between 01 August and 31 December 2018 at the European Union Delegation to the Philippines in Manila.


Two traineeships at Political, Press and Information Section,

Two traineeships at the Trade and Economic Section,

One traineeship at the office of the Head of Delegation.


Main objectives

Traineeships in EU Delegations have the following main objectives:

•  to provide students/trainees with a unique experience of the daily work of an EU Delegation while learning about the representation of EU interests and values outside of the EU;

• to offer students/trainees the possibility of discovering directly the multicultural, multilingual and multi-ethnic working environment of a Delegation;

• to offer students/trainees the possibility of applying the knowledge acquired during their studies or their early professional life;

• to create a group of young people with direct experience in the work of the EU outside of its borders and who could become future collaborators of the EEAS or other EU institutions;


Main tasks

To contribute and assist the Political, Press and Information Section in analysing and reporting about political developments in the Philippines, on foreign policy, on issues of relevance to the EU-Philippines relations, and to engage in the public diplomacy programmes of the Delegation. Trainees will also take part in various meetings, conferences and other events, and will also work with enhancing the profile of the EU in the Philippines through social media.

To assist the Trade and Economic Section with research and to write analytical papers on economic, trade and investment related topics; to participate in various meetings, conferences and fora; assist in the implementation of the economic diplomacy strategies (which may include trade related social media posts, research on market access topics, etc); and to provide weekly economic and trade news reporting.

To assist the Head of Delegation; to prepare background briefings on agenda related topics, preparing meetings, provide and coordinate input for speeches, help prepare missions, and to assist in protocol, agenda and other matters.

for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates:

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to help cover living expenses. However costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
