The 2017 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) brought together Ministers and top-level government officials from 50 member and partner countries to discuss ways to make globalisation work for all. The European Union (EU) was represented by the EU Commissioner for Trade, Mrs. Cecilia Malmström and the EU Commissioner for Financial and Economic Affairs, Mr. Pierre Moscovici.
The OECD MCM took place at the OECD Paris Headquarters on 7 and 8 June 2016. The Ministers reflected on the opportunities and challenges brought by globalisation and how to better spur growth and job creation. The discussion centred on ways to better harness domestic policies and use the contribution trade and investment can make to build more inclusive and dynamic societies. Importantly, this year's theme has be seen against the backdrop of a marked anti-globalisation sentiment in many developed countries, coupled with uncertainty on continuing free trade policies.
