On Sunday 5 May, the Delegation participated at the Divine Word University Open Day in Madang Province, sharing with students and academia at its booth/presentation stall about the EU and its work in Papua New Guinea and concluded with a presentation of Erasmus + on Monday 6 May. A similar outreach about the EU was held on the same day in the capital city of Port Moresby, where the Head of Delegation Ioannis Giogkarakis-Argyropoulos attended a radio interview on popular 'Talkback Radio Show' then made a presentation of the EU with students at the Port Moresby National High School for its 'EU comes to your school' for the EU-PNG Friendship Week.
This year, the Delegation also held a first, 'Your School comes to the EU' for the EU-PNG Friendship Week, on 7 May, where senior high school students from the Port Moresby International School visited the Delegation for a small tour and a meet and greet with the Ambassador. Their visit was followed by that of local all-girls school, Marianville Secondary School, where students travelled 11 miles from their school campus to visit us at the Delegation office. Students were enthusiastic and had plenty of questions for the Delegation Staff and Ambassador.
The Head of Delegation together with UNICEF, the EU's implementing partner for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) participated in interviews together at PNG's local Television and Radio station, at the PNG National Broadcasting Cooperation Television and Radio Service on May 8 and 9. The objective was to talk about the EU's work in PNG with special focus on its partnership with the government of PNG in the area of WaSH. Both appearances were broadcast live with the public showing an interest in the work being done, by taking the time to call into the studio to interact and ask questions.
Some 150 guests joined the Delegation at the official Europe Day Reception on May 9 to observe Europe Day. Papua New Guinea's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Hon. Rimbink Pato delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of the PNG Government. A trailer of the film on the EU-PNG Partnership at 40 years, which is to premiere on June 6, was also shown, to end what has been an exciting and busy EU-PNG Friendship Week to celebrate Europe Day.
