The European Union has launched for the first time in Papua New Guinea the Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities programme, and invites civil society organisations to participate in the Call for Proposals under the programme.

The Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities (CSO-LA) is a European (EU) thematic programme that builds on the 2012 EU Communication on Civil Society in external relations, recognizing that engagement with community organisations contributes to human development and conflict prevention.

Peace, security and non-violence are among the most fundamental needs for a society to flourish and to develop. However, the daily lives of many people and communities - often the most vulnerable – are affected by violence. The lack of security also affects the provision and use of services, employment opportunities and investment. Complementing the role of the state, civil society and community organisations play a crucial role in addressing this issue.

The overall objective of the call for proposals is therefore to enable civil society organizations to engage as actors of development and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The specific objective of this call for proposals is to support communities and the society as a whole in addressing conflict and violence and strengthening a culture of peace and peaceful resolution of divergent interests - 'Holim Bel Isi na Gutpela Sindaun'

The overall amount available under this call for proposals is EUR 5.4 million (about PGK 20.7 million. The Guidelines and the Concept Note application form, alongside relevant annexes can be accessed at the following website: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/europeaid/online-services/index.cfm?do=publi.welcome and or outlined here.
