The European Union and Ministry of Social Development celebrate Ramadan with Palestinians

During this month of Ramadan 500 food and hygiene parcels will be distributed to 500 vulnerable families and 10 care centres and shelters for elderly, orphans and People with Disability managed by the Ministry of Social Development in West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Since 2014, the EU, together with MoSD, celebrate the holy month of Ramadan with vulnerable Palestinian families receiving social allowances from the Cash Transfer Programme in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The European Union Representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff said: “The Holy Month of Ramadan reminds us all of the importance of solidarity with the most vulnerable in the society. The past few years were very difficult for Palestinians, and even worse for the poorest families in the occupied Palestinian territory. The EU continues its support through a series of interventions in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development. We remain fully committed to help the Palestinian Authority in meeting its obligations towards thousands of vulnerable Palestinian families in the West Bank and Gaza.’’

Background:

The EU and Member States are leading donors in the social protection sector in Palestine. The EU supports the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), which is responsible for the provision of basic social protection to the most vulnerable families in the West Bank and Gaza through its Cash Transfer Programme (CTP).
