Islamabad, 8 August 2017: More than 50 young students from across Pakistan have been selected for the Erasmus+ program, which is the world's most successful student exchange programme. Through this programme, which is funded by the European Union, young students from outside Europe have the unique opportunity to pursue a master’s degree at various universities across Europe.
To mark the great achievement of the young and aspiring students, Ms. Anne Marchal, Chargé d'affaires of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, hosted a pre-departure briefing session and reception for the successful candidates.
Speaking to the students, Ms. Anne Marchal said “At the heart of Erasmus+ is the belief that education will shape the society we live in. The European Union firmly believes in this transforming power. By bringing people from different backgrounds together, Erasmus+ helps to build open, tolerant societies –something that is today more vital than ever.”
She thanked the students for choosing to study in Europe saying, “You are now part of a big family of students from around the world, who will have the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree or training in different universities across Europe. And for that, you chose to go to the EU. It is our turn to thank you for this choice!”
Students were also given the opportunity to meet representatives of EU Member States, the Higher Education Commission and the EU delegation who briefed them about the cultural aspects of life in Europe and their study programs at various universities. They also met with other Erasmus+ Alumni members, who shared their experiences of studying in Europe.
While addressing the students, representative from the Higher Education Commission Syed Waseem Hashmi said that, the mobility of the Erasmus program and strong focus on research and innovation is a great learning experience for the students from Pakistan. “This experience will bring an immense change in your life as you will learn advanced techniques and methodologies which will open new avenues of research for you to contribute in your field of work. In addition to that, you will also experience various cultures and traditions, and have a unique opportunity to share your own customs and an insight into your heritage, to develop long lasting relationships with the communities and individuals that you meet there.”
The successful students will be studying a range of subjects including Engineering, Robotics, Communication, Development, Analytics and Journalism.
The Erasmus Plus is an EUR 14.7 billion programme, which combines all of the EU's current schemes for education, training, youth and sport.
