We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is regionally accredited to: Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia, was established in 2004 and covers bilateral relations between the EU and the three Gulf countries as well as relations between the EU and GCC Secretariat.

We offer

We offer a temporary 6-months post of G20 Policy Officer. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as G20 Policy Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to the Head of Delegation and relevant Sections with the following task and responsibilities under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Delegation:

  • To contribute to the monitoring and reporting of the G20 to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • To support the Head of Delegation co-ordinate with associated services of the Commission, Council and EEAS involved on G20 issues.
  • To contribute to the participation of the EU to the G20 and support all related events in the Kingdom.
  • To liaise with the G20 secretariat and Saudi authorities on G20 issues and prepare as required all required notes in English/Arabic.
  • To prepare accurate briefings, speeches, statements etc as required by Head of Delegation as well as contribute to the preparation of the visits as required;
  • To be ready to perform other tasks requested and act as a back-up of other members of the Delegation team and work closely with the G20 Logistical and administrative officer.

The opening hours of the delegation are from 8 AM to 5 PM, the number of working hours per week is 37h30.
Benefits: The monthly salary is 18.647 SAR. The contract is of fixed duration of 6 months, with a 3 month probation period.

Holiday: 11 working days in addition to national days.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  • Have an excellent ability to maintain diplomatic relations and capacities to communicate in a complex, multicultural environment;
  • Have an excellent capacity to create constructive working relations with national Authorities, international organisations and EU Member States;
  • Have strong drafting, communication and analytical skills combined with soundjudgement;
  • Experience of working in a team in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment;
  • Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  • Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  • Has an excellent working knowledge of English;
  • University degree in relevant field;
  • Has 1 year professional experience performing tasks related to the above;
  • Knowledge of Windows 7 and Microsoft Office;

The following will be considered an asset:

  • A Master degree or/and other higher education diploma ;
  • Experience in a diplomatic mission or/and additional relevant working experience;
  • French or other EU language(s);
  • Knowledge of Arabic;
  • Character references;

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates may be invited to an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
