South African Student Photography Competition

We are excited to announce our student photography competition. If you are a student registered at a recognised South African tertiary institution (university or college) we invite you to compete in this exciting initiative with a theme of development-in-action.

What's up for grabs?

3rd place – Photographic equipment to the value of R2 0002nd place – Photographic equipment to the value of R4 0001st place – Photographic equipment to the value of R6 000

Plus, selected images by the winning candidates will be published on our EU-SA 2020 calendar.What you need to know?

To register, click on the link we provided, follow the instructions and submit your photo. The first 200 submissions will be accepted. Of these, 10 submissions – as decided upon by independent adjudicators* - will be posted on Twitter. The public will then be invited for a period of five days to vote for their favourite photographers. The winners will be given an opportunity to photograph a select number of EU funded projects. Their images will be published as part of our EU outreach activities in South Africa. Tip: Follow our Twitter account and turn on notifications.

*The judges' decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Registration and material submission dates

Registration is free and it opens 3 September 2019 (Tuesday) and closes 16 September 2019 (Monday). Each participant is expected to submit 1 original photograph highlighting development-in-action. Strictly one submission per candidate. Your photo submissions should at least be a minimum of 2700 x 1800 pixels.  Please make sure that you rename your photo with your name and surname.
