The EU welcomes the important work of the Team of International Experts in support of the efforts of the authorities in the promotion of reconciliation and the strengthening of accountability in the Kasai regions. The technical assistance given by the OHCHR in the field of forensics has also demonstrated its added value. The EU also welcomes the good cooperation by the DRC Government with the Team of Experts.
As acknowledged in the resolution, the situation in the Kasai continues to be fragile. We should therefore remain vigilant in order to prevent any deterioration of the human rights situation. It is also paramount that all perpetrators of the violations and abuses committed in the Kasai, regardless of their affiliation and rank, are brought to justice. Urgent actions should also be undertaken to release all women and children detained by the Bana Mura militia in the region of Kamonia.
In this context, the EU welcomes the initiative taken by the DRC and the African Group to request the renewal of the mandate of the Team of Expert as well as the continuation of the technical assistance by the OHCHR. The EU is pleased to support this request and would like to express its appreciation about the renewed engagement of the DRC, as member of the Council, to cooperate with the Council and its mechanisms.
Finally, the EU thanks the DRC and the African Group for the constructive spirit during the negotiations and for taking on board several proposals made by the EU.
Thank you, Mr. President.
